Children at Akshara are given ample opportunities to learn through play in the Kindergarten classes. Learning activities disguised as play activities help children acquire various skills such as fine motor skills, cognitive skills, sensory skills etc. At the same time initiating into reading and writing is also done through well guided activities. Thus we are able to create an atmosphere congenial for learning through the fun way.
Learning at Akshara begins between the ages two and a half to three years in the play class. In the play class children are initiated to develop various skills. Activities for motor and fine development are introduced with simple exercise like creeping, crawling, climbing, jumping, throwing, catching, threading beads, lacing, buttoning, spooning, fishing, brain gym, scribbling, clay modelling, colouring.
Activities for cognitive development:
Putting together the pieces of a simple puzzle - begning first with a 3 pieces puzzle and then gradually moving into more difficult ones of 5 to 6 pieces.
Playing and constructing with building blocks helps to develop thinking ability.
Learning basic mathematics concept like big-small, far-near, up-down, long-short, tall-short, high-heavy. Seriating and classifying on the basis of size, color, pattern etc, one to one correpondence matching, counting with objects, learing understanding value of numbers etc.
Activities for sensory development :
Children are made to use their senses to see, hear, smell, touch and taste through simple games and activities and thus improve their skills of observation.
Activities for Language developemnt:
Flash cards and picture reading is done to improve the vocabulary of the children. Understanding and following simple instructionss, expressing their thoughts, role play, story telling, reciting and singing is also done.
Activities for Socio-emotional development:
Children are involved in organised activities which encourage waiting for a turn, sharing, bonding with other children. Learning to share toys, food etc is also emphasised.
Creative Designing: Children are involved in various creative activities like paiting and craft.
Thus the child who completes the term at play class acquires all the readiness skill required for the next level.
